Nationwide Test of Emergency Alert System: Today

A test of the Wireless Emergency Alert System is scheduled to occur nationwide between about 2:20 and 2:50 p.m. today, October 4. The test is being conducted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

A wireless emergency alert will appear on the screen of the recipient’s cell phone as a text-like message reading “THIS IS A TEST of the National Wireless Emergency Alert System. No action is needed.” The alert will be accompanied by a unique attention signal and vibration, which is particularly helpful to people with hearing- or vision-related disabilities.
