Narcan Added to AED Units on Campus

The Erie County Department of Health has given Buffalo State 100 doses of Narcan, also known as naloxone, to be placed in all automated external defibrillator (AED) units on campus, along with directions for use. This nasal spray medication is used for the emergency treatment of a known or suspected opioid overdose. Signs of overdose include difficulty breathing, severe sleepiness, inability to respond to vigorous stimulation, and pinpoint pupils. This video and these FDA guidelines (scroll down to Instructions for Use) provide basic instructions on how to administer Narcan and properly dispose of used packaging. Both links are also available on the Weigel Wellness Center website. If you would like additional training, please call 878-6711.
