The data science and analytics (DSA) graduate program will host the final presentation in the spring 2022 seminar series, “How Health Care Is Really a Data Business and Why Data Businesses Are Getting into Health Care,” presented by Mark Newsom, principal and founder of Health Evaluations LLC, on Thursday, April 28, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. via Zoom. All are invited to attend.

Mr. Newsom has spent more than 20 years working in corporate and federal government health care. His talking points will include the following:

• Health care spending was about $4.1 trillion in 2020, or $12,530 per person, and accounted for nearly 20 percent of the Gross Domestic Product.
• Roughly one out of eight jobs is in health care.
• From clinical trials to electronic medical records to insurance claims, health care is a data-driven business.
• Increasingly, traditional tech companies such as Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft are investing heavily in health care.
• Trends and opportunities for exciting data science careers abound in the health-care field.
