We all have mental health; learn how to care for yours! As part of Mental Health Awareness Week at Buffalo State, send your students to the Mental Health Fair on Thursday, April 11, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Bulger Communication Center lobby to enjoy healthful snacks, informational materials, speaker mini-presentations, and exhibits. Admission is free. In addition to representatives from campus departments, student groups, and community agencies, the following exhibits from the Museum of disABILITY will be featured:
- Madness in America: A History of Mental Health. A six-panel banner stand that provides an overview of the history of mental health in the United States. The display features the development and expansion of mental institutions, changes in medical care and treatment, and contributions by individuals who received mental health services.
- War and Disability. This five-panel banner stand examines the American military and disability experience in terms of medical military technology, legislation regarding veterans, the psychiatric effects of combat, popular culture and disability, and the contributions of individuals with disabilities in times of national need.
Please let Suzanne Johnson, senior counselor in the Buffalo State Counseling Center, know if your department or club is interested in setting up a table or displaying materials for this event. Please consider offering extra credit to your students for attending this walk-through event.
