Lecture - 'Imagining Mattering: Hip-Hop Civics Ed, Intersectionality, and Black Joy' - April 28

Bettina Love, associate professor in the Department of Educational Theory and Practice at the University of Georgia, will present "Imagining Mattering: Hip-Hop Civics Ed, Intersectionality, and Black Joy" on Thursday, April 28, from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center South. This event is part of the Black Cross Project at Buffalo State, which promotes conversations on racial and social justice.

Love is an award-winning author whose research focuses on urban youth and their efforts to use hip-hop music and culture to negotiate complex social, cultural, and political phenomena. Recently, Love was named the Nasir Jones Fellow at the W.E.B. Du Bois Research Institute at Harvard University. She possesses a broad research agenda that encompasses hip-hop culture, black feminism, queer youth, and race and equity in education.

All faculty, staff, students, and community members are invited to the lecture and the Q&A session that follows. This event is made possible by sponsorship provided by the Grant Allocation Committee, the Faculty-Student Association, the Equity and Campus Diversity Minigrant Program, and the Woods-Beals Endowment.
