Buffalo State seeks internal candidates for the position of interim dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences (SNSS). This is a management/confidential 12-month administrative position. This position is to be held until the search for the full-time dean has been completed.
Job Responsibilities
- Oversee 13 academic departments, five interdisciplinary units, and four research centers and institutes
- Uphold the mission of Buffalo State College and implement its strategic and academic plans
- Represent SNSS on various campus committees and work groups (Deans’ Council, Provost’s Council)
- Establish priorities and resources for academic programs in consultation with chairs, directors, and faculty
- Provide sound fiscal management
- Maintain the Dean's Office with appropriate sense of purpose, morale, and responsiveness
- Provide faculty support: hiring, promotion and tenure, research, advocacy, collegial work climate
- Exhibit fairness, equity, and consistency in judgment
- Promote recognition of student excellence
- Participate in external fundraising and grant procurement
- Boost community visibility and relations; foster campus, regional, national, and international partnerships
Required Qualifications
- Full-time, tenured member of the faculty in the School of Natural and Social Sciences, with an earned doctorate
- Demonstrated effectiveness in leadership and administration
- Strong record of scholarly achievement
- Commitment to facilitate excellence in teaching, service, and research/scholarship within NSS
- Commitment to the school’s fiscal development, planning, fundraising, and effective allocation of resources
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with diverse faculty, staff, units, and departments in NSS and in the college community as a whole
- Ability and willingness to guide infrastructure projects to completion
