Buffalo State seeks internal candidates for the position of associate dean of the School of Natural and Social Sciences (SNSS). This is a Management/Confidential, 12-month administrative position. The anticipated date of hire is January 1, 2019, for a three-year, renewable term.
Job Responsibilities
- Represent SNSS on various campus committees and work groups
- Serve as point person for SNSS curriculum revisions, program creation, program review, and catalog oversight as well as liaison for general education assessment
- Serve as point person on evaluation of SNSS Strategic Plan action steps
- With the dean, participate in personnel actions, such as appointment, reappointment, and promotion reviews
- Serve as resource for faculty development, through ad hoc faculty training and as an informal resource for faculty inquiries
- With the dean, participate in budget responsibilities such as management of the academic equipment budget, management of the temporary services budget, analysis and actions on the end-of-year budget, department budget allocations, and space issues
- Advise students as needed
- Teach one course per year (possibly excepting the first year of appointment)
- Other duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
- Full-time tenured member of the faculty in the School of Natural and Social Sciences
- Record of successful, ongoing teaching, scholarship, and service to the college
- Ability to professionally represent the dean and the SNSS within the college and in the community
- Successful administrative experience and demonstrated leadership capability
- Experience with curriculum development, assessment, and program review
- Experience with academic advisement
- Excellence in attention to detail and organizational, communication, administrative, and technology skills
- Ability to model collegiality, work as a team member, and demonstrate initiative and commitment to the Buffalo State mission, vision, and values
The associate dean is privy to sensitive and confidential information. The ability to maintain confidentiality is paramount.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with managerial operations, including scheduling, fiscal management, part-time and full-time personnel actions, statistical data, and technology
- Expertise to provide and analyze data for enrollment management and fiscal and facilities decisions
- Knowledge of database or statistical applications and technology
