Posted: Wednesday, January 30, 2013Information Regarding Influenza
The staff of Weigel Health Center would like to inform faculty and staff of the measures we are taking to address the increased cases of flu that have been reported in the community this year.
We have set up a flu clinic for anyone who would still like to receive the vaccine. The clinic is scheduled on Wednesday, January 30, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Campbell Student Union.
We have a clinician blocked every day to specifically manage students who are sick and need to be seen that day.
We have a small supply of antiseptic hand gel in pump dispensers. The hand sanitizer was purchased in 2009 during the pandemic. These are reserved stock items with limited quantities and will not be replaced after they are gone. They will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis. Each office can take one or two dispensers. You can pick up the dispensers at the Weigel Health Center (first-floor reception desk).
We would also like to keep everyone informed of preventive measures and signs and symptoms of the flu.
Preventive Measures
- Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Put used tissues in the wastebasket. If you don't have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve or the crook of your arm, not into your hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth.
- Try to avoid close contact with sick people.
- If you are sick, stay home to avoid spreading germs to others.
Signs and Symptoms of Influenza
- Fever or feeling feverish, having chills.
- Cough.
- Sore throat.
- Runny or stuffy nose.
- Muscle or body aches.
- Headache.
- Fatigue (very tired).
- Some people may have vomiting and diarrhea, though this is more common in children than in adults.
