Mark your calendars for next Friday! Join the Art Conservation Department for a night of “Assessing Authenticity” at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. From 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., conservation students and faculty will demonstrate some of the tricks of the trade for detecting a forged work of art. At 7:00 p.m., Paul Messier (’90) will present “Too Good to Be True: The Man Ray and Lewis Hine Authenticity Scandals,” discussing his research on fraud in the twentieth-century vintage-photography market and the forensic analysis of photographs. Messier will talk about investigations involving Man Ray and Lewis Hine photographs, and the tools and techniques he is developing to help distinguish the genuine from the fake.
