The Anne Frank Project will be taking its third trip to Rwanda January 7–22. The 2013 team consists of Buffalo State students, alumni, faculty members, and donors. The trip is led by theater professor Drew Kahn and humanitarian Carl Wilkens. The team will visit genocide memorials, schools, orphanages, arts organizations, villages, and families.
The focus of the trip is to experience the multiple wonders of Rwanda, its culture, history, and people and artistically translate these rich moments into the storytelling process of devised theater. The team will be collaborating with Rwandan student-artists to begin the creation of a new play based on social justice issues of their choice. This storytelling foundation will be developed into a full performance in the Ensemble Theater course this spring. The final product will premiere at the Anne Frank Project's 2013 conference and tour local high schools during the fall 2013 semester.
The Buffalo State community is invited to "join" the Anne Frank Project in Rwanda by following the student AFP 2013 Rwanda blogs.
The Anne Frank Project is proud to partner with Buffalo State's International and Exchange Programs Office, Academic Affairs Office, School of Arts and Humanities, and Theater Department as well as the Foundation for Jewish Philanthropies of Western New York to help realize its international programming goals.
