Fashion Speaker: Re-Educating and Decentralizing Fashion for Gen Z - April 13

The Fashion and Textile Technology Department is pleased to announce an upcoming event featuring speaker Kimberly Jenkins on Thursday, April 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the LoRusso Alumni and Visitor Center. The event is designed to address the fashion industry's inclusion and social and racial justice concerns, particularly in response to the discerning perspectives of the new generation of students, Gen Z.

Reports suggest that Gen Z students are seeking to recognize previously overlooked creatives, including designers of color and those from non-Western countries. As such, Ms. Jenkins's professional and academic work on decolonizing the fashion curriculum and her course on fashion and race at Parsons in NYC have become a source of inspiration for students seeking to challenge the power structures that have favored dominant groups at the expense of ethnic minority communities.

During this event, Ms. Jenkins will share her expertise on these important topics, drawing from her innovative work on the Fashion and Race Database. The event will provide an opportunity for attendees to engage with her and learn more about her groundbreaking efforts in the fashion industry.

The event will include food and beverage service, and all members of the university community are welcome to attend. Please mark your calendars and join us for this insightful and engaging event.
