Equity and Campus Diversity Film Series: 'American Promise'

Please join us for a screening of the award-winning documentary American Promise (2013) on Thursday, February 27, at 6:00 p.m. in Bulger Communication Center South 2. The film will be followed by a discussion led by Teresa Miller, law professor and vice provost for equity and inclusion at the University at Buffalo, and Jason Parker, program coordinator in the Equity and Campus Diversity Office at Buffalo State.

"American Promise spans 13 years as Joe Brewster and Michèle Stephenson, middle-class African American parents in Brooklyn, New York, turn their cameras on their son, Idris, and his best friend, Seun, who make their way through one of the most prestigious private schools in the country, Manhattan’s Dalton School. Chronicling the boys’ divergent paths from kindergarten through high school graduation, this provocative, intimate documentary presents complicated truths about America’s struggle to come of age on issues of race, class, and opportunity."(PBS.org)
