John Cabra, associate professor of creative studies, will share his research as part of the Emerging Scholar series on Friday, January 27, from noon to 1:00 p.m. in E. H. Butler Library 210. This series of presentations provides early-career faculty with an opportunity to share their intellectual work with the rest of the campus.
Cabra notes that the onset of the twenty-first century is marked by deep psychological and sociological transformations affecting every scale of human endeavor, ranging from individual to crowd behavior. Deep and central to these transformations is the penetration of digital communication and computer technology into modern-day life. Above all, this new and evolving technological landscape has opened exciting new possibilities to drive creative behavior, organizational creativity, and innovation through computer-mediated interactions.
This presentation will elaborate on a research agenda that explores ways to give rise to these opportunities and challenges, including pedagogy in the 3-D world of Second Life, new product development in Teleplace, neural nets that pick up cognitive style patterns, and digital social innovation made accessible to impoverished populations.
