Daylight Saving Time Changes May Affect Your Outlook Calendar

A new law taking effect this year will change the timing of Daylight Saving Time (DST). Beginning this year, DST will begin on the second Sunday of March and end on the first Sunday of November.

This change will affect computer systems and some software such as Exchange and Outlook/Entourage. Computing and Technology Services will be able to update most campus devices remotely, and we will be finalizing an update schedule over the next few weeks. However, Microsoft has warned that even after Exchange and Outlook are updated on the servers and client machines, users may find that some calendar items occurring in those extended DST periods (March 11–April 1, and October 28–November 4) may be one hour off.

Palm and other PDA devices may also have to be updated to reflect the DST changes.

More information will be provided as it becomes available. It is recommended that as we get closer to March, you keep printed copies of your Outlook/Entourage calendars for the period March 11 through April 1, and verify those meeting times on your computer after March 11. Computing and Technology Services will send updated information as it becomes available, including the schedule for applying updates to your campus desktop and laptop devices.
