Program Revisions:

C.A.S. Educational Leadership – Building and District, CAS-ED ECP

New Courses:
EDU 420 Issues in Early Childhood. Exploration of current issues and trends in early childhood education, their sources, and impact on best practices in the early childhood classroom related to expectations, curricula, assessment, and other initiatives. Evaluation of implications for early childhood programs and settings, diverse families, and communities. Emphasis on the historical and political context for change and advocacy for sound educational practices and policies for the future. Offered every semester.

EXE 602 Practicum in Childhood Special Education. Prerequisites: EXE 500 or equivalent; EXE 501 or equivalent; EXE 502 or equivalent; EXE 503 or equivalent; minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 in prerequisite coursework; program coordinator permission. Graduate student teaching experience with children ranging from grades 1-6 needing special education services, completed in public, private, or charter school classrooms, private agency classrooms, or classrooms in residential settings. Required for graduate teacher candidates seeking certification as teachers of special education. Offered every semester.

New Course with Intellectual Foundations Designation:
MATHEMATICS AND QUANTITATIVE REASONING
CIS 121 Introduction to Coding. Introduction to various topics of computer science and development of the computational thinking practices of problem solving and coding. Exposure to programming basics using a block-based graphical environment in contexts such as website design and app programming for mobile devices. Offered every semester.

Course Revision:
CNS 617 Technical Aspects of Preventive Conservation Lab. Prerequisite: CNS 615. Corequisite CNS 616. Laboratory course exploring the practical and scientific principles behind preventive conservation. Hands-on experiences in materials testing, environmental monitoring, accelerated light aging, pest management and identification, agents of biodeterioration, and emergency management. Offered spring semester.
