The "Crisis!" film series continues on Thursday, March 20, at 6:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center with a free screening of Alex Gibney's 2010 documentary Client 9: The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer. Guest panelists for the preview and post-screening discussion include Robert McCarthy, chief political correspondent for the Buffalo News, and Geoff Kelly, editor of Artvoice. Client 9 is much more than a biography of former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer, the onetime Sheriff of Wall Street. The film explores the events leading up to the most devastating financial collapse since 1929. Gibney asks probing questions about Spitzer, who resigned his governorship six years ago this week after admitting that he was indeed Client 9 in a high-end prostitution ring patronized by many of the powerful Wall Street players he investigated.
The Crisis! series is hosted by Bruce Fisher, director of the Center for Economic and Policy Studies in the Economics and Finance Department. Regular panelists include Ted Schmidt, associate professor of economics and finance, and Albert Michaels, professor of history and social studies education.
The panel starts at 6:00 p.m. Film begins at 6:30, with a discussion following.
