Buffalo State Accessibility Team

I am pleased to announce the formation of the Buffalo State Accessibility Team, charged with developing a systematic approach to maintaining accessible electronic environments for campus community members.

Educators and institutions alike have a legal responsibility to provide accessible platforms and materials to students. As institutions increasingly turn to digital course materials, increased attention must be paid to ensure that all students are able to participate in and benefit from learning opportunities.

The Buffalo State team will work with constituent members from all areas of campus to devise campuswide policies and procedures and coordinate necessary support activities. Accordingly, the team will provide guidance for covering technical standards, roles, and responsibilities and establish protocols for new and existing content and technologies, accessible technology acquisitions, and methods for training relevant campus constituents. Policies and recommendations will be presented to the CIO and vice president for enrollment, marketing, and communications.

The Buffalo State Accessibility Team is composed of the following core members:

Team Coordinator: Sumana Silverheels, Technology Accommodations Coordinator, Student Accessibility Services
Colleen Callahan, Associate Director of Web Community and Development, College Relations
Theresa Janczak, Associate Professor of Exceptional Education
Melissa Miszkiewicz, Director of RITE Strategic Partnerships
Meghan Pereira, Director of Instructional Design and Training, RITE
Jose Gonzalez, Student Representative

Workshops on the topic of accessibility are continually offered to ensure campus compliance. A list of scheduled sessions is available via the Workshop Registration System. Accessibility workshops that meet the specific needs of departments can also be requested from Instructional Design and Training.
