Beyond Boundaries Presents 'Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World' - October 25

The Equity and Campus Diversity Office, the Communication Department, and the Burchfield Penney Art Center are pleased to announce the screening of Rumble: The Indians Who Rocked the World, the next film in the Beyond Boundaries: Dare to Be Diverse screening and discussion series for fall 2018, on Thursday, October 25, at 7:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center’s Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Auditorium. The film’s executive producer, Buffalo State alumnus Tim Johnson, ’82, will attend the screening.

Rumble, a Canadian documentary about the role of Native Americans in popular music history, brings to light a profound and missing chapter in the history of American music: the indigenous influence. Featuring such music icons as Mildred Bailey, Randy Castillo, Jesse Ed Davis, Jimi Hendrix, Charley Patton, Robbie Robertson, Buffy Sainte-Marie, Taboo, and Link Wray, Rumble shows how these pioneering Native musicians helped shape the soundtracks of our lives. The film won a Special Jury Award for Masterful Storytelling at the 2017 Sundance Film Festival, as well as Best Film, Best Cinematography, and Best Editing awards for feature documentaries at the 2017 Canadian Screen Awards.

The film was inspired by the popular Smithsonian Institution exhibit Up Where We Belong: Native Musicians in Popular Culture, which Mr. Johnson created for the National Museum of the American Indian. Rumble is produced by Rezolution Pictures, an award-winning Aboriginal-owned film, television, and interactive media production company.
