The Buffalo State College Maritime Center is offering a workshop on building a traditional, canvas-covered canoe with instructor Lew Markle, a professional builder/restorer based in East Aurora. Participants will build the traditional canoe mold and then craft a 15-foot canoe over the mold. Lots will be drawn to take the canoe home and participants will be entitled to use the mold in coming months to build a canoe of their own. The workshop begins on January 6 and takes place at the Maritime Center at 901 Fuhrmann Blvd. on the Outer Harbor.
