Call for Proposals: Equity and Social Justice Conference

The Adult Education Department and the School of Education Dean's Office are proud to sponsor the eighth annual Conference on Equity and Social Justice (ESJ), which will take place on campus on Saturday, March 7, 2015. Keynote presenters are Wayne Au, associate professor of educational studies at the University of Washington Bothell and editor of Rethinking Schools, and Lois Weis, SUNY Distinguished Professor of educational leadership and policy at the University at Buffalo.

The 2015 theme, Meaningful Change: Transforming Communities of Practice, celebrates the fundamental dialectic that interweaves theory and action. Conference directors invite proposals that address issues of equity and social justice in the practice of teaching and learning.

Proposals must fit within one of the six conference strands:

  • Adult education in communities of practice
  • Critical race studies
  • Critical youth studies
  • Educational reform in the twenty-first century
  • Urban education and community partnership
  • “Othering"

Presentation proposals are due Sunday, November 30, and must be submitted by e-mail to esjconference@buffalostate.edu.

Full descriptions of each strand and allowable presentation formats are available on the ESJ conference website. Accepted presenters are also invited to submit full papers for a special equity and social justice issue of the peer reviewed Journal of Inquiry & Action in Education (due March 16, 2015) .

Visit the conference website or e-mail program coordinators for more information.
