In order to more deeply explore what community engagement means to Buffalo State, President Katherine Conway-Turner has invited Andrew Seligsohn, executive director of Campus Compact, to Buffalo State for a stimulating campuswide discussion on Tuesday, September 22, at 3:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center's Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Auditorium. Buffalo State’s rich and varied history of engagement with the surrounding community was recognized in January 2015 when Buffalo State joined an elite group of colleges and universities that have received the Community Engagement Classification from the prestigious Carnegie Foundation.

In celebration of this achievement, faculty, staff, and students are invited to this lecture, discussion, and reception to explore what it means for Buffalo State to serve the public good and fulfill our mission to empower a diverse population of students to succeed as citizens of a challenging world. As executive director of Campus Compact, Seligsohn oversees a national coalition of nearly 1,100 colleges and universities committed to the public purposes of higher education. Campus Compact enables campuses to develop students’ citizenship skills, forge effective community partnerships, and support faculty and staff members as they pursue community-based teaching and scholarship in the service of positive change. The discussion will focus on why and how every interested member of the campus community can integrate and participate in community engagement efforts through teaching, research, student development, and community outreach.
