Please join Buffalo State College students and alumni to view a work in process in collaboration with acclaimed global artist Michael Mwenso today, April 15, at 7:00 p.m. on Zoom. Since mid-February, Mr. Mwenso has worked with students and alumni to develop a work based on his curriculum “Hope, Protest, and Resilience through the Black Arts.” He met with students through a hybrid model and spoke, danced, and sang with them about the history, spirit, and joy of Black art in our current climate of Black Lives Matter and the COVID-19 pandemic. The students used music from Mwenso and the Shakes to develop a premier piece with the Buffalo State’s Runway theme, “History Retailored,” showing in May.
We thank the Grant Allocation Committee, the Theater Department, the Africana Studies Interdisciplinary Unit, and Buffalo State Runway for their support in bringing this wonderful collaboration of art, healing, and research from the Black perspective to life.
