'Bioarchaeology in Buffalo: The Erie County Poorhouse (1851-1903) Inhabitants Tell Their Tales' - May 1

Melanie Mayberry, lecturer in the Anthropology Department, will present "Bioarchaeology in Buffalo: The Erie County Poorhouse (1851–1903) Inhabitants Tell Their Tales" on Tuesday, May 1, at 12:15 p.m. in Classroom Building B116. Dr. Mayberry will discuss the life histories of the dead buried in the Erie County Poorhouse Cemetery, located at Main Street and Bailey Avenue in Buffalo, as inferred from the human remains of nearly 400 people excavated in the summer of 2012. The inhabitants provide an interesting perspective on Buffalo’s immigrant working-class history, seldom remembered or recognized by the city’s modern inhabitants.
