Banner Override Training

There will be two Banner override open demo sessions held in E. H. Butler Library 316: one on Wednesday, October 26, from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. and another on Tuesday, November 1, from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. Both sessions are open to all departments and do not require registration. Rada Montroy, information support analyst, will facilitate. All departments that have not had training or any faculty member who would like a refresher course is strongly encouraged to attend one of the sessions to be prepared for registration.

All department chairs received a list of courses along with the prerequisites and corequisites. These lists were then reviewed by departments for accuracy and corrected if needed. The Registrar's Office used these updated lists to make changes to the courses in Banner as needed. Banner will enforce prerequisites and corequisites for all semesters including January term 2012 and spring 2012. Updating text in SSATEXT is important, but this does not enforce prerequisites or corequisites.

Banner is now programmed to do this directly from the catalog level. The master schedule report now also has two additional columns to show prerequisites and corequisites (if applicable) on each section. You can reference how to access and use the master schedule report at www.buffalostate.edu/banner/documents/MasterScheduleReport.pdf.

Faculty members should check with their departments so that they know which prerequisites and corequisites are on the section they are teaching in addition to any restriction(s). It is important to understand how the section is set up to know which override(s) you may need to grant to students.
