Posted: Wednesday, May 4, 2022Assisting Students with Scheduling Their CEP Exam Appointments in the Student Accessibility Services Testing Center
We would like to take a moment to thank our instructors for a successful launch of the new Testing Center at Student Accessibility Services this academic year. We could not have been as successful without all your positive participation!
As we head into scheduling for Finals Week (CEP), we would like to make you aware of how the Testing Center will operate so that you and your students can be informed about how exam appointments should be scheduled to allow the Testing Center to accommodate as many students as possible in our limited space.
We have created an informational handout for instructors with more detail that you may download (PDF, 687 KB).
The Testing Center will be open the following extended hours during Finals Week to accommodate as many CEP time blocks as possible:
- Monday–Thursday: 7:30 a.m.–5:00 p.m.
All exams must be completed by 5:00 p.m. - Friday (Emergency CEP Day): 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m.
All exams must be completed by 4:30 p.m.
We ask that if you are following the official CEP schedule distributed by the Registrar’s Office (PDF, 92 KB) for the date and time of your exam that you please have your SAS-registered students adhere to your assigned CEP time block so that we may accommodate as many students as possible in our limited space. For example, if your exam is scheduled for the 7:40–9:30 a.m. CEP time block, please ask students to schedule their exam start time at 7:40 a.m., not at 8:00 a.m. or at any other time.
When you submit your exam to the Testing Center for administration, please remember that CEP time blocks are one hour and 50 minutes long; deviation from the duration of CEP time blocks, even by 10 minutes, will severely limit the number of students we can accommodate on any given day.
Some Friendly Reminders about the Testing Center at Student Accessibility Services
- The Testing Center does not host online exams.
If your exam is online, please see the IT Knowledge Base on how to allow extended time for your students with this accommodation. - The Testing Center is student-driven.
The process starts with your students making their CEP exam appointments before the deadline of Monday, May 9. We appreciate that instructors may want to assist their students as much as possible; however, we ask that you direct your students to the Make Your Exam Appointment in the Testing Center link on the Testing Center website so that they are encouraged to observe their responsibility and increase their self-advocacy. - The staff of the Testing Center uses the information provided by your students when they make their exam appointments to ensure that they will have a space in the Testing Center for their exam and have access to all their exam accommodation and assistive technology. These provisions take time to set up correctly for each individual student and can be requested only by the student.
Submission of Your Exam to the Testing Center Using the Online Form Is by CRN for Your Course.
- Our database uses your course CRN as the unique identifier for the system. We ask that you submit the correct CRN for the course that your student is enrolled in. If you have multiple students in multiple CRNs, you must submit the online form for each CRN. We apologize for this inconvenience. Please understand that because of staffing and access to SMS systems, we must insist.
We ask new instructors and those not yet familiar with the new policies and procedures of the Testing Center at Student Accessibility Services to please take the time to familiarize yourselves with your roles and responsibilities available on our website.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Andrea Gustafson, learning and accommodations specialist and staff member in charge of the Testing Center, at exams@buffalostate.edu, the address for all Testing Center correspondence.
Thank you for being a part of Buffalo State College’s dedication to equal educational access to individuals with disabilities.
