Art'scool Educators' Night Out: May 5 at the Albright-Knox

An inspirational talk by Bill Strickland, president and CEO of Manchester Bidwell Corporation, nationally recognized author of Make the Impossible Possible, and MacArthur Fellowship “genius” award recipient, will be held Thursday, May 5, from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

Inspired by his high school art teacher, Strickland created the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild, an after-school program focused on the arts, while still a college student at the University of Pittsburgh. In 1971, Strickland assumed leadership of Pittsburgh’s Bidwell Training Center, which helps young people and adults develop skills designed to make them competitive applicants in their local job market. Manchester Bidwell Corporation (the parent company of the Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild and the Bidwell Training Center) has become a national model for education, culture, and hope.

Don’t miss a welcome from Alphonso O’Neil-White, president and CEO of BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York, and Louis Grachos, director of the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.

The gallery and BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York will also announce a special contest with grants to support arts programs in schools. After the talk and announcement, enjoy a complimentary reception to celebrate the continuing success of the Art’scool K–12 school tours program.

Admission and parking for this special event are free, but space is limited! R.S.V.P. to Lindsay Kranz at (716) 270-8276.

Art’scool is presented by BlueCross BlueShield of Western New York.
