The Alternative Break Student Leadership team is hosting its fourth annual spring fundraiser to provide monetary support to students who would otherwise not be able to participate in an alternative break service trip experience as a Buffalo State student. The Alternative Break program hosts service trips throughout semester breaks to give students the opportunity to volunteer with nonprofit organizations to meet community-identified needs as they learn about social issues. Additionally, these experiences give students an opportunity to open their horizons, serve communities, develop teamwork and leadership skills, and build strong bonds with new friends. Through this fundraiser, we hope to raise money to allow more students to participate in these experiences, regardless of their financial situation.
You can assist us in one of the following ways:
- Purchase a locally grown, organic seedling. We are selling Genovese basil (sweet basil), oregano, marigold, teddy bear sunflower, and hollyhock seedlings to bring beauty, bees, butterflies, and bounty to your yard. Seedlings arrive on May 10 with planting and care instructions. A variety of seedling combinations can be ordered to meet your needs: 1 for $3 or 2 for $5. (We also have a few small spider plants for sale.)
- Purchase a mason jar gift. A mason jar gift is a festive gift for someone in your life who would enjoy chocolate cake, chocolate chip cookies, yellow cake, quick bread, or brownies. Dry ingredients are artfully displayed in the jar, accompanied by baking instructions, as well as suggested ingredients for variations. For $8, mason jar gifts make a great gift for a host, Mother’s Day, or your child’s teacher. These arrive on May 10.
You can submit your order for seedlings and mason jar gifts online by Monday, April 30. Orders will arrive on Thursday, May 10. The Alternative Break student leadership team thanks you for your support!
