Joseph L. Zawicki, Associate Professor, Earth Sciences and Science Education

Joseph Zawicki, associate professor of earth sciences and science education, was named 2019 Citizen of the Year by the Erie Niagara Chapter of the New York State Society of Professional Engineers. The award recognizes Dr. Zawicki's lifetime efforts in the STEM fields, particularly his leadership as president of the executive board of WNY STEM Hub.

The Erie Niagara Chapter of NYSSPE is a professional organization of licensed engineers in several disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, environmental, industrial). The chapter’s outreach includes working to expose primary and secondary students to the STEM fields in order to build interest in careers in science, math, and engineering. It has also been working to create student chapters that would expose college students to the engineering profession and impart the need for professional licensing.
