Carol Townsend, associate professor of design and coordinator of design foundations, was one of eight people selected by poet Neil Shepard to participate in his advanced workshop "The Whole Poem," held at the Chautauqua Institution's Writers' Center from July 16 to 20. Shepard is the longtime editor of the literary journal Green Mountains Review.
The July poet-in-residence at the Writers' Center, Jim Daniels, selected Townsend as the Spotlight reader from his workshop "Writing and Art: Shared Inspiration." Her poem was titled "Dissecting Musée des Beaux Arts."
Townsend was also selected as a reader in the Chautauqua Institution's "Third Annual Favorite Poem Project," which was started as an offshoot of poet laureate Robert Pinsky's 2009 visit to the institution.
