José Rivera, Lecturer, Exceptional Education; and Evelyn Rosario, Senior Academic Adviser, Educational Opportunity Program

José Rivera, lecturer in the Exceptional Education Department, and Evelyn Rosario, senior academic adviser in the Educational Opportunity Program, received the Champion in Education Award from Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown on October 15, as part of Hispanic Heritage Month. Dr. Rivera, a former Buffalo principal, is an adjunct instructor for the School of Education and the new Buffalo Urban Teacher Pipeline Residency Program who teaches in both the residency and the bilingual special education programs. Ms. Rosario, currently a Ph.D. candidate in transnational studies at the University at Buffalo, is experienced at counseling in public schools, mental health, and higher education. Her teaching experience includes a seminar for freshman students and the Puerto Rico program. Hispanic Heritage Month includes a variety of community activities and events that celebrate Hispanic heritage, history, and culture.
