Patrick Ravines, Director and Associate Professor in Art Conservation, was co-chair for the 2nd International Conference on Surface Metrology and presented a paper entitled "Surface metrology applied to the study of the earliest photographic process, the daguerreotype" held at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Worcester, Massachusetts, from 25-27 October 2010. Also, Paula Artal-Isbrand (alum 1994) presented a paper on "An Examination of Decorative Surface Techniques on a 5th Century BCE Red-Figure Greek Vase Using Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) and Confocal Microscopy".
