Sharon Raimondi, Professor, Exceptional Education

Sharon Raimondi, associate professor of exceptional education, received the 2013 Distinguished Professor Award from the University at Buffalo's Learning and Instruction Department. The award recognizes a professor whose efforts, disposition, and commitment to graduate students set a high-water mark from within the department of highly accomplished peers.

At the end of each academic year, UB students nominate and select the award winner. This is the second time Raimondi has been honored with the LAI Distinguished Professor Award. Raimondi directs the joint doctoral program in special education, a collaborative program operated by the University at Buffalo and Buffalo State.

"Dr. Raimondi tirelessly devotes her energies toward ensuring her students are critical thinkers, thorough researchers, participatory students and, most of all, are attentive to details," remarked doctoral scholar Andrew Hashey when presenting the award at the annual LAI awards banquet. "She models these behaviors as both a teacher and mentor. She strives to provide each and every one of her students with the tools required for success...and her careful attention to her students' lives outside the campus ensures their educational experience is one characterized by support and nurturing."
