Elizabeth Peña, director and professor, Art Conservation, recently returned from a monthlong course, “Sharing Conservation Decisions,” in Italy. She was one of just 22 participants selected from around the world and the only American. Sponsored by theInternational Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property, the workshop focused on decision-making in the interdisciplinary field of cultural heritage and included a collaborative case study at the Sacro Monte di Varallo in the Italian Alps, a site visit to the Opificio delle Pietre Dure in Florence, and a behind-the-scenes visit to Herculaneum. While there, Peña served as a visiting scholar at the American Academy in Rome.
