Maxed Out, an original screenplay written by Jeffrey Hirschberg, associate professor and director of the television and film arts program, was awarded Top 10 Percent status at the Austin Film Festival (out of 6,500 screenplays submitted throughout the world). Hirschberg has been invited to the festival's annual conference in Austin, Texas, later this month.
A short film adaptation of the screenplay, written and directed by Hirschberg and produced by Hirschberg and Lou Rera, associate professor of communication, was named an official selection at the Friars Club Comedy Film Festival (FCCFF) and will be shown during the festival in New York City October 24–27. The FCCFF is a star-studded celebration of the comedy genre in the heart of New York.
