Cynthia Conides, Associate Professor, History and Social Studies Education

The John R. Oishei Foundation has awarded a grant of $151,200 to the Buffalo and Erie County Historical Society (BECHS). The funding proposal was prepared by Cynthia Conides, associate professor of history and social studies education and director of the museum studies program, and Melissa Brown, executive director of BECHS. Part of this award is designated for the revitalization of the museum’s Native American Gallery. A design and interpretation for the new gallery was undertaken by alumna Sonia Penaranda-Gonzalez, ’10, who will serve as a consultant on the project. The new gallery will be unveiled in early 2013. Buffalo State and BECHS have engaged in formal collaboration since September 2006. In January 2010, Conides was appointed as curator of special projects to BECHS after serving as the museum’s executive director for four years. The college-museum collaboration continues to provide fruitful intellectual exchange and opportunities for Buffalo State’s emerging museum professionals.
