Watercolorist Linda Toomey will demonstrate opaque watercolor techniques with the use of gouache, after which participants will experiment with gouache and create small landscapes during this workshop on Sunday, February 8, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney Art Center at Buffalo State.

Toomey is interested in small gouache landscapes, her inspiration stemming from the play of light on water, especially coastal and river marshes. She hopes to take the viewer to a natural world of quiet solitude, contemplation, and peacefulness. Toomey earned her bachelor of science and master of science degrees in art education at Buffalo State. Last year, she exhibited at the Buffalo Society of Artists and had a solo exhibition at Breakwater Gallery in Cape Vincent, New York. Her work is in numerous public and private collections, including Women and Children’s Hospital and Roswell Park Cancer Institute, and in Kanazawa, Japan, Buffalo’s sister city, whose dignitaries received gifts of her paintings from Mayor Byron Brown and the Albright-Knox Art Gallery.
