Walk a Mile in Her Shoes: SUNY Buffalo State Team

Join SUNY Buffalo State and Crisis Services for the 10th annual Walk a Mile in Her Shoes community march on Sunday, April 26. Each year, an ever-increasing number of men, women, and their families are joining Walk a Mile, the international men's march to stop rape, sexual assault, and gender violence. The event is a fun opportunity for men to take a stand with women as allies, raise awareness, and rally the community to take action to prevent sexual violence.

Based on the old saying "You can't really understand another person until you've walked a mile in their shoes," this event asks men to literally walk 1 mile in women's high-heeled shoes. It's not easy but it's fun, and it gets the community to talk about a difficult topic: gender relations and men's sexual violence against women.

The event kicks off and ends at Crisis Services, 2969 Main Street at the foot of Hertel Avenue. The route takes supporters down Hertel to Starin Avenue and back again. Competitions and contests will feature activities, prizes, and more.

All proceeds support the Crisis Services Advocate Program, which provides confidential response and support services for survivors of rape, sexual assault, domestic violence, family violence, and elder abuse 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Support the Buffalo State team or join the Buffalo State team. Students and staff are welcome to join.

Please contact Paula Madrigal, wellness and prevention coordinator, ext. 4719, with questions.
