Rooftop Poetry Club Features Josh Smith and Fred Whitehead

Join us for a reading featuring Josh Smith and Fred Whitehead on Tuesday, October 16, from 12:15 to 1:15 p.m. in the International Students Reading Area (third floor SE quadrant, under the flags).

Smith enjoys being the main event. Since 2006, he has courted that spotlight across North America, headlining in Buffalo, Montreal, Toronto, Rochester, and more. His work has been published by Artvoice, the Buffalo News, Ploughshares, and sundry others. 2012 has been Smith’s finest year; he sold out the first run of his DVD, Adrenaline Child, captured the Best of Buffalo awards for Best Spoken Word Artist and for Best Poet, and performed at some of Buffalo’s biggest shows, including Music Is Art and Artists & Models.

Whitehead is the host of the Fourth Friday Poetry Series at Dog Ears Bookstore, 688 Abbott Road in South Buffalo. His fourth collection of poetry, Water from a Toad, released as an e-book in June 2012, is due out in expanded print version this fall. His other works include a chapbook, Songs, Cradled (2009); Protected by Paradox (2011); and Orbs (2012). He also has produced a series of 12 broadsides in cooperation with the Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida. A sample of his work is posted on his poetry blog and at the Facebook groups Living Poets Society and Western New York Poets. You can also hear him on thinktwice radio.
