Referring Distressed Students to the Counseling Center

Thank you to the many faculty and staff who have consulted with us about students in distress, and who have walked students over to our center for evaluations, crisis intervention, and support. We appreciate your attention to students' needs at this time, and we remain available for additional consultation.

Student success is our top priority. Please call us at ext. 4436 whenever you are concerned about a student's behavior. For detailed information about warning signs of students in distress, please visit our Web site at www.buffalostate.edu/depts/counsel and click on "Making a Referral to the Center."

For assistance and emergency referrals, please call the Counseling Center at ext. 4436. We are located on the second floor of the Weigel Health Center. At any time an emergency or violence occurs, you can also call University Police at ext. 6333. They are available 24 hours a day. Crisis Services of Erie County is also available 24 hours a day at 834-3131. Remember, you don't have to handle a problem alone—call us at ext. 4436 for a consultation with a counselor who is trained in college mental health.
