Redesigned Daily Bulletin to Launch April 21

From the Associate Vice President for College Relations
As part of our ongoing efforts to improve campus communication, College Relations will release a new and improved Daily Bulletin on Tuesday, April 21. Delivery to subscribers will continue via e-mail and the Daily Bulletin website without interruption.

The Daily Bulletin serves as Buffalo State’s official source for policy, personnel, and curricular matters and provides the campus community with a centralized source for important information. In addition, the publication highlights stories that showcase the teaching, research, and service accomplishments of the college’s faculty, staff, and students; notable events; profiles of faculty members, students, alumni, and donors; athletics news and schedules; and more.

College Relations is committed to providing the best user experience possible for this important resource. Our office conducted a reader survey in 2014 and has used the responses to inform updates to the Daily Bulletin.

Updates and Improvements

  • Comprehensive – Feature sections tied to particular days of the week will remain in place: faculty and staff achievements will continue to run on Wednesdays, and curricular actions and items will continue to appear on Thursdays. Announcements from the college administration, news and events, and user-generated messages will continue to run daily. In addition, the redesigned Daily Bulletin will offer several new highlighted sections:

A new “Buffalo State Media Mentions” section will provides a succinct weekly roundup of the many ways we’re getting the word out about Buffalo State.

A new “Campus Community” section, dedicated to special-interest and support-service items, will help readers quickly distinguish messages that are critical to the day-to-day operations of the college from those regarding campus life and activities.

  • Streamlined – We have revised the frequency of individual submissions. Messages may now be submitted to the Daily Bulletin a total of three times. Original submissions (run date 1) appear within the issue’s main contents; repeat submissions (run dates 2–3) are published in the “Previously Announced” section.

  • Responsive – The Daily Bulletin is now scalable for mobile phones and tablets. The e-mail now adjusts to your device size, stacking the columns so you receive important announcements and messages at the top without having to zoom in and out. No more having to resize your browser window to read messages! The Daily Bulletin web version is now also fully responsive.

  • Searchable – 10-plus years of announcements, messages, and stories from past issues of the Daily and the Bulletin have been combined into one massive archive. The archives can be browsed by type, for example, “From the President” or “Curricular Items,” or by date. Simply type your search request into the box in the upper left corner of the new Daily Bulletin’s web version, and archives for both the Daily and the Bulletin will be searched. Or you may use the “Pick a Date” button to select a past issue, and quickly jump from issue to issue.

  • Engaging – The new Daily Bulletin will look similar to the former version, but subtle visual changes will reflect a better user experience. Photos will be larger and crisper, content will be easier to read across devices, and the new publication will incorporate easy-touch buttons for actions such as browsing the archive or submitting an item.

  • Faster – The new Daily Bulletin will have greatly improved performance and load time. Individual messages will open quickly. Likewise, the speed of the message submission form has markedly increased.

User Submissions
As always, faculty and staff members may add “Today’s Messages” and “Achievements.” Users also have the ability to run an item multiple times using a single submission, embed their own hyperlinks, and spell-check submissions before publication.
