Come and visit the Anthropology Department’s Archaeological Field School on Grand Island as part of the Public Archaeology Open House on Wednesday, June 27, and Thursday, June 28.
Project director Lisa Marie Anselmi and the field school participants will be on hand between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to guide visitors around the current excavations and to answer questions relating to the history of native occupations on Grand Island and basic archaeological techniques. Also present will be representatives of the Grand Island Historical Society, who will discuss the historic property of River Lea and more modern occupations along the East River.
Activities will take place along the East River Trail in Beaver Island State Park, behind River Lea. Enter Beaver Island State Park at the admission booths and then follow the signs to River Lea. Please park your vehicle in a designated area only. You may enter the East River Trail through the iron gates at the edge of the River Lea property. Don’t forget your bug spray and sunscreen!
