Professional Development Conference: Giving and Getting Access to Scholarly and Instructional Materials

A one-day conference designed to help faculty members and researchers understand and safeguard intellectual property rights in producing and consuming information will be held at the College at Brockport on Friday, October 26, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The conference, titled "Giving and Getting Access to Scholarly and Instructional Materials," will include discussion of copyright and licensing environments in general, and alternatives to current models including the open access movement. The May 2012 federal court decision in the closely watched Georgia State case makes the conversation especially timely. The conference will address questions such as "How do new publishing alternatives affect my scholarship, instructional design, and teaching?" and "What should I tell students producing new projects about protecting their intellectual property?" Participants will come away with an awareness of key issues, trends, and best practices in the use of scholarly and instructional materials.

The Faculty Development Office will sponsor up to 10 faculty members to attend the conference. Participants will be sponsored on a first-come, first-served basis. If you are sponsored by Buffalo State, you must agree to participate in a presentation to share this information with other Buffalo State faculty members.

To register, contact Cara Angie, ext. 3841.
