Professional Development Center: ONE Buffalo State

The Professional Development Center (PDC) will host a series of open-format conversations—One Buffalo State—on engagement, inclusion, and student success during the months of March and April. Buffalo State has undergone significant change over the past decade. Yet through the challenges, the college has remained committed to its central mission—the intellectual, personal, and professional success of its students, staff, and faculty.

While the college’s long history of success has formed strong foundations, the arrival of a new president and the forthcoming naming of a new chief academic officer have oriented Buffalo State toward the future. Indeed, these changes in leadership offer unique opportunities to consider the state of the college and to engage in campuswide conversations about the challenges of the moment as well as the promise of the future.

Buffalo State’s commitment to shared governance and dialogic processes is evident across the campus as diverse groups, including the College Senate and the Transformation Working Group, look to the future and continue to provide guidance toward the goal of making Buffalo State a place of excellence. The PDC hopes to add to the dialog by hosting this series to provide opportunities for faculty, staff, and students to share their insights on who we are and who we will become.

Conversations hosted by the PDC will center on Buffalo State values with particular consideration of a unified commitment to excellence that unites the campus and strengthens the college’s commitment to distinctive programs built on access, engagement, inclusion, and service to the community.

The results of these meetings, in the form of notes, summaries, and identification of themes and trends, will be shared in a campuswide open forum during the Pedagogical Institute in May 2015.
