Privacy Is Your Responsibility!

Do you have any personnel paperwork stored on your laptop or on a flash drive that you carry to and from the office? Do you have a spreadsheet of student grades stored on your laptop? Does that file contain names or student ID numbers? If that device goes missing, the theft or loss would be considered a data security incident to be reported to SUNY and the state, and the affected students or employees would be notified of the incident and the data security risk.

According to a new state law, New York State Information Security Breach and Notification Act, we may be required to report breaches of private information to those affected and to SUNY for possible forwarding to the NYS attorney general, the NYS Office of Cyber Security Critical Infrastructure Coordination (CSCIC), and the Consumer Protection Board (CPB).

See the Campus Confidentiality Statement for detailed information about your responsibilities and liabilities.
