Presentation: 'Community Power, Environmental Justice, and Public Health in Western New York' - May 17

The Western New York Chapter of the American Meteorological Society will sponsor the third of its spring 2016 seminar series presentations, ''Community Power, Environmental Justice, and Public Health in Western New York," by Rebecca Newberry, executive director of the Clean Air Coalition, on Tuesday, May 17, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. in Classroom Building A209. Parking permits will be distributed in Lot I-37.

Newberry joined the staff at Clean Air as an organizer in 2011. She brings a wealth of organizing and nonprofit management experience to the organization. During her time at Clean Air, Newberry has led successful campaigns, including work supporting residents who live near Amigone Crematory and Tonawanda Coke, and guided the launch of the Just Transition campaign to address the uncertain future of the Huntley Coal site in the Town of Tonawanda. She currently serves on the board of the Western New York Council for Occupational Safety and Health (WNYCOSH) and, for over a decade, has been actively involved in a series of economic and social justice campaigns.
