Movie Screening and Cocktail Reception

The History and Social Studies Education Department and the Burchfield Penney Art Center will present a special screening of the 2003 film Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World, starring Russell Crowe, on Friday, July 13, at 6:00 p.m. in the Burchfield Penney's Peter and Elizabeth C. Tower Auditorium.

Gordon Laco, who served as the lead historical consultant on the film, will introduce the movie and answer audience questions at the end. Laco, a sublieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy Reserve, has also consulted on other famous pictures, including the Pirates of the Caribbean series, and is currently part of the team working on the refurbishment of the USS Constitution.

Guests are invited to enjoy a cocktail reception and music on the gallery portico after the film as part of the Burchfield Penney's Second Friday series, sponsored by M&T Bank.
