Learn More about Open Educational Resources during Open Education Week

According to a 2015 Buffalo State survey, 72 percent of faculty members have heard of open textbooks, but there is more to open educational resources than just textbooks. Butler Library and Instructional Resources are working together to facilitate the OER discovery process for our faculty members. If you are interesting in searching for OER, you can use Buffalo State’s Open Educational Resources LibGuide.

The tabs on the LibGuide include:

  • Home - Overview of OER
  • Copyright and CC - Overview of Creative Commons licensing
  • Open educational resources (OER) - Descriptions and links to a variety of OER including courses, textbooks, videos, and quizzes
  • Searching OER - Tips to facilitate your OER search
  • ALMI -  Buffalo State’s Affordable Learning Materials Initiative information
  • Archive - Archived resources from past OER events

This week is Open Education Week, and the Open SUNY Center for Online Teaching Excellence (COTE) is featuring daily webinars and events from noon to 12:30 p.m. to raise awareness and use of OER and other open practices.

Today's Open SUNY COTE webinar is "OER Lib Guides," presented by Marcia Spiegleman at Nassau Community College, from noon to 12:30 p.m. Join in through Blackboard Collaborate.

You may also want to attend Open Education Week’s Beyond Textbooks webinar at 1:30 p.m. today to learn about the wide variety of OER available to help you customize and tailor your courses.

To find out more about the COTE OER webinars, please visit the COTE Hub, where you can view and access all of this week's COTE webinars. Keep an eye on the Daily for more Open Education Week highlights throughout the week.
