The Burchfield Penney Art Center will host the workshop "Investigating the Impact of Machines on Natural Landscapes" with photographer Viktoria Ciostek, on Saturday, October 15, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
Participants will engage with Ms. Ciostek in discussing the impact of man and machines on natural landscapes. Following a brief presentation of her photography and its relationship to Charles Burchfield's work, participants will partake in a hands-on watercolor project involving the Burchfield Penney Art Centers current exhibition Blistering Vision: Charles E. Burchfields Sublime American Landscape.
"Incongruous manmade objects in natural environments are subjects I use as windows to view larger industrial systems at play," Ms. Ciostek said. "It is my intention to raise awareness toward our industrial practices, the natural habitats they alter, and the need for responsible human stewardship over the resources and land we depend upon."
This workshop is part of the International Center for Watercolor Artist Inspiration Series. The cost of the workshop is $36 for members and Buffalo State faculty, staff, and students; $46 for not-yet members. For more information, please visit the Burchfield Penney website or contact Kathy Gaye Shiroki, curator of museum learning and community engagement, 878-3549.
