WORLD HISTORY AND GLOBAL AWARENESS
HIS 445/ANT 445 Women and Gender in the Middle East (formerly HIS 445 History of Women and Gender in the Middle East). Prerequisite: Upper-division standing or instructor permission. Gender, sex, and sexuality in the Middle East. Role of class, ethnicity, and sectarianism from pre-Islamic and pre-Christian Judaic era to present. Encompasses collapse of empires, colonialism, nationalism, and secularism. Includes women's lives and voices, feminist movements, gay and trans rights, and Islamic feminism. Offered every other year.
