Arlesa Shephard, Assistant Professor, Fashion and Textile Technology

Arlesa Shephard, assistant professor of fashion and textile technology, has four quilts displayed in the Amherst Quilters Guild's biennial quilt show, on view April 22–24 at the Buffalo Niagara Heritage Village in Amherst:

  • Night Blooming Cereus: made from a Hawaiian quilt pattern with hand appliqué and hand quilting
  • Sailing Toward the Sun: mixed methods with hand appliqué center panel and hand quilting
  • Calico Butterflies: reversible pieced quilt with hand quilting
  • Stars and Stripes: pieced quilt with hand quilting

With the exception of Night Blooming Cereus (which was adapted from a commercial pattern), all the quilts are her own design (some with variations on traditional blocks) and fabric selection.
